Sandbox Interactive joins Stillfront

16. March 2021 - written by dkp at 21:03 • 0 Comments
Dear Albion Community, As you might have read in the news, Sandbox Interactive will be joining Stillfront in January 2021. Stillfront consists of a family of game studios that largely work independently, while sharing knowledge and expertise between them to support each other. For the past eight years, we have been building Albion Online up completely on our own - everything from development, to marketing, translations, customer support has been built up by ourselves. Now that Albion is growing at a massive rate, we realize that being on our own is not always an advantage. There are just too many things we’d have to master, and while we believe no one can develop Albion Online better than we can, there are plenty of areas around the game itself where we could benefit from additional expertise. This is why we decided to join the Stillfront Family. The partnership with Stillfront allows us to remain fully invested in Albion Online and its development, focusing on making the best Sandbox MMORPG experience in the world, while benefiting from Stillfront’s expertise in marketing and publishing to spread the word of Albion Online around the world. For you, the players, this will mean more people to play with, more capacities for development of patches and updates, and simply more Albion Online as we continue to grow the game over the coming years. With this ending to 2020, we’re looking forward to a bright future for Albion Online in 2021 and beyond. Please let us know what questions you have about this in the comments below! Robin ‘Eltharyon’ Henkys, CEO & The Sandbox Interactive Founder Team Update: We've put together a little FAQ on the questions you've had about us joining Stillfront Group for visibility. Please click on the button below to view the options! FAQ How does Stillfront Group operate? Why did Sandbox Interactive join them? Stillfront Group itself only has a small number of people centrally. Their model is based on a hands-off approach where these they look for successful and well-run game studios to acquire and then let them continue what they do best while encouraging them to help each other out where it makes sense - in our case, that would be in marketing. See this interview with Stillfront's COO for some background on their approach. This is drastically different from how other companies / publishers handle games after they acquire them. We all know how this often turns out. And that's why we did reject offers from those types of companies. It was very important for us that we have the independence to continue to run the game as before - with exactly the same team and the same core philosophy. That's what made Albion successful in the past and will allow us to take the game even further in the future. // $(function() { $('.jsSpoilerBox').each(function(index, spoilerBox) { var $toggle = $(spoilerBox).removeClass('jsSpoilerBox').find('> header > .jsSpoilerToggle'); $toggle.click(function() { $toggle.toggleClass('active').parent().next().slideToggle({ complete: function() { var $container = $(this); if ($container.is(':visible')) { WCF.DOMNodeInsertedHandler.execute(); } if (!$toggle.data('hasCustomLabel')) { if ($container.is(':visible')) { $toggle.text('Spoiler ausblenden'); } else { $toggle.text('Spoiler anzeigen'); } } } }); }); }); }); //]]> Will there be any changes to the overall vision of the game? Will the dev team still have control over the game’s development? There are no plans whatsoever to change Albion Online's game design philosophy, road map or vision for the game. Sandbox Interactive's staff and management remain unchanged and all the founders of the company will fully stay on board. We will continue to work on the game exactly as we have done before and, as always, in close collaboration with the community. What happens to your business model? Will your stance on micro-transactions change? Will Albion Online transform into a Pay-To-Win game? There are no plans at all to change the underlying business model of the game - i.e. premium, gold (for premium or vanity) and vanity items. Our business model is extremely solid, works well and is accepted by the players. It will work just as well on mobile - in particular, given that Albion Online is a cross-platform game. On top of that, adding "p2w" elements to Albion Online would almost certainly make it less profitable as a business. It does not make business sense to alienate our player. Albion has always been built in close collaboration with the community and a lot of its success is ultimately based on that - having a fair and solid business model is part of that arrangement. There is absolutely no reason to change this.

Duel exploit using different elevations

15. March 2021 - written by dkp at 01:18 • 0 Comments
Hi everyone, We are aware of a duel exploit going around where players use two similar characters placed at different elevations in certain locations, such as the Conquerors’ Hall or near the Realmgate, to obtain silver from their opponents. The first character is placed on the ground level and used as a distraction by asking people to duel him. The second character is placed on an upper level at maximum distance for the duel and sends out the duel invite for a silver wager instead. If players accept the duel invite and move around during the duel countdown, they will instantly lose the duel and silver. We consider abusing this to be an exploit under clause 15.5.4 of our Terms and Conditions and those who do so will be sanctioned accordingly. If you see anyone abusing this, please file a report by writing to support@albiononline.com and provide any evidence you might have, such as approximate server time, names of characters involved, the silver amount lost and ideally footage of the incident. Our developers are currently working on a fix for this issue and it will be resolved in an upcoming patch. - Mytherceria & Dev Team

Duel exploit using different elevations

12. March 2021 - written by dkp at 11:22 • 0 Comments

Albion's twelfth Guild Season kicks off this Saturday. Guild Seasons are an integral part of Albion, but they can be a bit overwhelming for new players or anyone who's been away from Albion for awhile. In conjunction with longtime Albion streamer Lewpac, we've created a video overview of Guild Seasons in Albion: how they work, how to score points, different types of seasonal activities, and more. 1,102 accounts banned for third-party currency transactions

10. March 2021 - written by dkp at 16:02 • 0 Comments
Hi everyone, Today we have banned over 1,000 accounts for involvement in third-party currency transactions. Such involvement is expressly prohibited by our Terms and Conditions. Please refer to the quoted section below: 4.5.1 Users are prohibited from selling, purchasing, renting, leasing, offering, accepting, disseminating or copying Virtual Benefits, including Virtual Currency, within and/or outside the Game - in whatever form – to/from third parties unless expressly permitted by these Terms and Conditions or the Game Rules. [...] You may already know this, but as a reminder, we would like to inform everyone that the silver acquired from these sellers is fraudulently obtained and is usually purchased with Gold using stolen credit card or other payment information. This means that once discovered, these payments are charged back - and we, as the merchant, are also hit with a chargeback fee. Buying from these third party sellers hurts SBI and the development of Albion Online. On top of this, we also believe in keeping a fair playing field and stable economy in the game. Therefore, we will continue to confront and combat this issue. If you suspect anyone of being involved in third-party currency transactions, please report them to our support team at support@albiononline.com with any evidence that you have. We do not discuss player sanctions or name banned accounts due to data privacy reasons. - Mytherceria & Support Team

Sandbox Interactive joins Stillfront

10. March 2021 - written by dkp at 10:36 • 0 Comments

2,046 accounts banned for third-party currency transactions

Hi everyone, Today we have banned over 2,000 accounts for involvement in third-party currency transactions. This is against our Terms and Conditions and the relevant section is quoted below: 4.5.1 Users are prohibited from selling, purchasing, renting, leasing, offering, accepting, disseminating or copying Virtual Benefits, including Virtual Currency, within and/or outside the Game - in whatever form – to/from third parties unless expressly permitted by these Terms and Conditions or the Game Rules. [...] The silver acquired from these sellers is fraudulently obtained and is usually purchased with Gold using stolen credit card or other payment information. As a result, once discovered, these payments are charged back - and we, as the merchant, are also hit with a chargeback fee. Buying from these third party sellers actively hurts SBI and the development of Albion Online, as well as hinders us from keeping a fair playing field and stable economy in the game. Therefore, we will continue to confront and tackle this issue. If you suspect anyone of being involved in third-party currency transactions, please report them to our support team at support@albiononline.com with any evidence that you have. We do not discuss player sanctions or name banned accounts due to data privacy reasons. - Mytherceria & Support Team

2,046 accounts banned for third-party currency transactions

4. March 2021 - written by dkp at 05:00 • 0 Comments

26. February 2021 - written by dkp at 02:52 • 0 Comments

Regarding Casinos / Gambling / Games of Chance [Updated May 05]

25. February 2021 - written by dkp at 09:18 • 0 Comments
Hello everyone, Gambling is a bit of a tricky topic, one in which nobody can win (pun intended). So here’s our stance: With the next patch, dropping on May 5th, there will be an explicit rule making it clear that gambling and games of chance are not allowed, to avoid any confusion. However, considering the fact that this kind of activity is considered illegal in certain jurisdictions, we already consider it a violation of our T&C, particularly §13.1 (Users are obliged to…(...)comply with applicable laws and all rights of third parties when using the Services.), and have to step in. Addendum May 05: As a follow up to the above statement, some players have asked us whether someone could get around the “no gambling” restrictions by turning their games into “games of skill” instead of chance. First of all, there are many games that contain chance and skill elements. If these games are run in a professional manner and targeted at the wider community, in particular if we suspect that they are an attempt to work-around the no gambling provision, we would absolutely consider them to be in violation. More importantly, please note that the definition of RMT plays an important role in this as well: 4.5.1 Users are prohibited from selling, purchasing, renting, leasing, offering, accepting, disseminating or copying Virtual Benefits, including Virtual Currency, within and/or outside the Game - in whatever form – to/from third parties unless expressly permitted by these Terms and Conditions or the Game Rules. An in game-system provided by the Game or by Sandbox Interactive to trade Virtual Benefits of the Game constitutes such an exception. In this case, the transfer of Virtual Benefits from one User to the other is only permitted if the transfer takes place - no matter if within or outside the Game – either without any form of consideration or with consideration if the consideration consists solely of Virtual Property or Virtual Currency of the Game and such is transferred within the Game itself or via a function provided by the Game. The acquisition of Virtual Benefits in exchange for any form of consideration other than Virtual Property or Virtual Currency of the Game is expressly prohibited. What this clause does, effectively, is putting a barrier between the in-game economy and the real world economy. You cannot pay real cash for in-game stuff, and you cannot pay in-game currency/items/etc for real world stuff. This covers goods and services. This means that if somebody would like to offer certain types of games to the Albion community - even if those would be pure games of skill such as chess - he could not charge any sort of direct or hidden in-game or out of game fee for this. Finally, per the Terms and Conditions, it is also not allowed for users to “advertise services or products provided by themselves or third parties, in particular so called “Gold Sellers””. While this is mostly aimed at Gold Sellers, it is deliberately phrased wider than that and covers all sorts of advertisement. Hence, if somebody creates an out of game “mini-games” website with a commercial vibe to it and uses in-game or in-community means to try and maximize their traffic, we would step in here as well. -Talion

2,046 accounts banned for third-party currency transactions

23. February 2021 - written by dkp at 17:50 • 0 Comments

Regarding Casinos / Gambling / Games of Chance [Updated May 05]

23. February 2021 - written by dkp at 13:00 • 0 Comments
-Talion

Regarding Casinos / Gambling / Games of Chance [Updated May 05]

20. February 2021 - written by dkp at 00:03 • 0 Comments
-Talion
